| Angiopteris evecta belongs to the Marattiaceae family, the common name is Giant Fern or King Fern. It grows from Madagascar through tropical Asia to north-eastern Australia and the western Pacific. In the wild, these huge ferns can have bases to 1 m high and wide and fronds of 6 m or more. It occurs in rainforests and secondary forests, often near streams. This fern is considered primitive, very similar fossilised fronds have been found in rocks some 300 million years old. They require protection from frost and need a consistent supply of moisture to do well. In our webshop we sometimes have this fern for sale. |
