Cyathea tomentosissima is a rather small tree fern with a trunk that starts growing after 4 years and becomes 1-2 m tall and 15 cm in diameter, with fronds that are 1-1.5 m in length. It comes from the cool mountain, cloud forests and grasslands of New Guinea at very high elevations of 3000-3300 m and is therefore rather frost resistant. This tree fern seems to have found its way into cultivation in Europe, Australia, and even the United States, though it is still very rare. It does not grow as fast as most of the other tree ferns, Its small size makes it easy to incorporate into a city garden, and it will also grow well in pots or tubs. -8C°.
