Dicksonia sellowiana looks much like D.antarctica and D.fibrosa, but does not grow in Australia or New-Zealand, but on the other side of the world. It is found in almost complete Central and South America at 1000-2000 m height. The trunk may reach 10 m and about 15-20 cm in diameter and may be covered at the base with fibrous roots. The stipe at the texture of the fronds is firm and of a beautiful shade of green and may be as long as 3 m. There are couple of minor differences from it and D.antarctica, the top of the trunk, as well as the base from the stipe are densely covered with yellowish hair when the new fronds uncurling, also the fronds keep coming up throughout the growing season. This tree fern likes a moist and shady location and a sufficient amount of water. Experience showed us that it is just or even hardier than D.antarctica and therefore also suitable for use in the garden with winter protection, a well-drained soil is very important.

In our webshop we sometimes have this tree fern for sale.
