Dicksonia youngiae forms one or more strange looking dark brown trunks that are 2-5 m tall and 15-20 cm thick. The upper trunk looks more reddish-brown because of reddish brown hairs. This specie produces offshoots and spreads underground what may result in a colony, on above picture you see a small plant of D.youngiae what already produces a new plant at its left. Distribution is in Queensland and Northern New South Wales, Australia from near sea level to 1200 m in rain forest. Plants are fast growing for a tree fern and doing well in moist humus soils, it is also hardy in many sheltered situations but does not endure heavy frost very well.

In our webshop we sometimes have this tree fern for sale.
