Rare specie with small blood-red colored spines, without hair.
Origin:
Mexico (Puebla, Veracruz).

Growth habits: Usually solitary, up to 4 feet tall
(1.2 m), 1 foot in diameter (30 cm), 13 to 27 ribs, 4 central spines.
Blooming habits:
Funnelform purplish flowers, up to 3 inches in diameter (7 cm), followed
by deep purple fruits, 1.4 inches long (3.5 cm).
Former
name Ferocactus Jalapensis (after the city Jalapa) in the years 1960. Not
to be mixed up with the Hamatocactus hamatocanthus from Texas and Northern
Mexico.
