Description:
Found north to New Mexico and south to Mexico. It’s a large species
with a thick trunk that can reach 5ft (1.5m) tall and is topped by a crown
of erect leaves. The leaves are green and glossy with rust-colored, backward-curved
teeth on the margins, and are spoon-like at the base, giving this genus
the common name of "desert spoon". Extremely tolerant of drought,
heat, cold, and soil type, must have well-drained soil and full sun to
grow best, although it can tolerate light shade. Hardy to minus 18 degrees.
