This rare specie has his origin in central Baja California and Sonora Mexico. It is an extremely slow grower with a thick columnar trunk, wide at base tapering at tip, and sharp spines all along the twiggy branches.
It is a tall desert tree with usually a single trunk till 18 m! and branches up to 5mtr but very narrow at the top. It has large panicles of yellow flowers at the peak of the trunk.
