Much
reading pleasure by this newsletter from Tropical Centre!
First a short summary of this very long newsletter through below
picture. Because of the workload we did not have the time to distribute
a newsletter earlier,
but our regular visitors will have noticed the changes throughout
our site: a lot of new pictures, new plants etc......
We
changed the look of our facility, and made some changes
in our outside garden. In the glasshouse you can now walk complete
around on a width path of
400 m length!
Also there is now a space with floor heating for our exclusive
plants. This and many ongoing projects will be pubished in detail
in our future newsletter.

Yucca
linearis x torreyi:
This special and
still exclusive yucca was discovered by us in 2004 and introduced.
This is a hybride of yucca torreyi and linearis blue and origins from
northeastern Mexico. As it is a hybride, it's possible that one
plant looks more like a torreyi and the other like a linearis. Therefor
I use the term "sometimes" in
the description.
This hybride looks in many ways like the linearis
blue, it has flexibele but sometimes harder long leaves, which are grenish-grey
up to up to
90 cm, forming a perfectly spherical wide head. This hybride has wider
leaves than the linearis blue with sometimes a thin red line. The flower
has also a purple color in the beginning, like the torrey.
The hybride also forms a cluster of 3-5 smaller trunks around the
central trunk and can grow up to max. 250-300 cm. This plant can withstand
temperatures down to
-15
degrees Celsius and has some the same unique qualities as the linearis! It
is a fast growing yucca and can be increased via cuttings. Iif through circumstances the foot is rotten, this can be cut off and the
plant will make new roots via de outer trunklayer.
Another remarkable quality is that if the crown is rotten, you can treat it for
mould, and this plant will make one or even more new crowns. So more or less
an indestructible unique and exclusive yucca for inside and outside. |
