New agave: Agave parryi huachucensis

`

This solitary, sometimes clump-forming Agave parryi var. huachucensis is the largest of the three hardy Agave parryi var. The wide steelblue-grey leaves form a striking rosette. The leaves can get 60 cm long ending in a large and sharp, dark brown or black coloured spine measuring 2-3 cm. This Agave ssp. forms an offset on its roots. It blooms in late spring or early summer and the flowers grow on large branching stalks up to 3-4 m high. The pink buds open to become bright yellow flowers. This species is hardy till minus 10°C, but good water drainage is essential, as with all agaves and is absolutely critical for survival in cold but wet climates such as our climate here in Holland. The plant originally grows in Southwest Arizona, New Mexico, and the State of Sonora and Chihuahua in Northern Mexico. Price: € 38,00

New agave: Agave ssp. sharkskin

This Agave is a hybride of Agave victoria-reginae and Agave scabra .The name Shark Skin was applied due to the plant's texture and colour. It feels like the skin of a shark. It grows up to a 90 cm diameter and has thick triangular shaped, dark, gray-green leaves with smooth margins and prominent sturdy terminal spines. This Agave ssp. produces suckers, eventually forming large colonies. It is hardy till minus 5°C and needs full sun. Price: € 38,00.

New agave: Agave desmettiana variegata

A highly ornamental, medium size, upright Agave ssp. that is variegated with creamy yellow stripes along the leaf margins. It has soft leaves, sometimes with very small teeth or lacking these teeth, it is also known as Agave miradorensis. It's origin is Mexico and North America. It is a quick growing Agave ssp. with leaves that can grow up to 90 cm long. The plant needs full sun in our climate and is a nice tub or patio plant and will tolerate temperatures to minus 4°C, Price: € 56,00.

New: fouquieria diguetti

Fouquieria diguetii is common throughout central and southern Baja California. It forms a trunk that will reach a height of 2 meters with branches. Plants flower most of the growing season with scarlet flowers and are therefore an important source of nectar for hummingbirds. Moderate water when leaves are present, dry in the wintertime.
Hardy till minus -4°C. Price € 125,00.

New fouquieria: fouquieria columnaris syn. Idria columnaris

This very unususal plant is rare in nurseries and has the CITES II status. Our plants are nursery grown and produced from seed. This Fouquieria, also known as Boojum Tree, originates in the States of  Baja California and Sonora in Mexico. It is a slow grower that develops over time a thick columnar shaped trunk, wide at the base, tapering at the tip. It has twiggy branches covered with sharp spines.
This tall  “desert tree “ with usually a single trunk, grows to a height of 18 m with branches up to 5 m but stays very narrow at the top. It develops large panicles of yellow flowers at the peak of the trunk.
Hardy till  minus -4°C. Price € 115,00.

Tetrapanax papyrifera 'steriodal giant' (also called 'Rex')

Tetrapanax papyrifera sterioidal giant is one amazing looking tropical favorite. It grows as a shrub or small tree (2-3 m) and belongs to the ginseng family (Araliaceae), native to southern China and Taiwan. It is used to produce rice paper. It has large, lobed leaves that form a crown. The central tissue of the stem is split and pressed into thin sheets, used for surgical dressings and watercolour paper. This ‘Ricepaper plant’ will spread underground in good soil, so do not plant it near small defenseless plants, since it will overgrow them. Hardiness -13°C till -15°C.
We grow these for years now, but because of the huge demand we are always immediately sold out.
Now we have them again: well rooted, strong plants available: 10,5 ltr pot €
35,00.
