Picture from our showgarden

Angiopteris evecta:

Angiopteris evecta belongs to the Marattiaceae family. Its common name is Giant Fern or King Fern. It grows from Madagascar through tropical Asia to north-eastern Australia and the western Pacific. In nature, these huge ferns have bases up to 1 m high and wide and fronds of 6 m or more. It occurs in rainforests and secondary forests, often near streams. This fern is considered primitive, very similar, fossilised fronds have been found in rocks some 300 million years old. They require protection from frost and need a consistent supply of moisture to do well.

Very big plants 40 cm caudex in 110 ltr pots! € 450.00
Collectors item.

Cyathea atrox:

Rarely offered with a trunk!
This wonderful tree fern comes from the high altitude grass lands of Eastern New Guinea at 2700 to 3600 m above sea level. The trunk gets up to 6 metre tall with medium sized fronds 1-2 m long.
It is a beautifull fast growing blond haired tree fern and it will take a little frost -3°C.

Trunk 30-40 cm: € 140,00

Cyathea aramagensis:

Cyathea aramagensis comes from the Mariana Islands, the name refers to the island of Aramagan in the Northern Marianas. The plant has a erect trunk 6-10 m tall and the fronds can get 3 m long. The stipe is long and has some scales that are dark brown to almost black. A real collecters item, -3°C.

Trunk 30-40 cm: € 140,00

Cyathea dregei:

This species originates from Africa and Madagascar and grows at 900-1800 m altitude. The trunk will get up to 4-5 m tall and the dark-green fronds form a dense crown. These fronds can reach a length of 3 m. It is a tree fern with a stout dark trunk and in Africa it withstands frost and bush fires. It grows rather slowly and prefers a sunny or partly shady location in well-drained soil and needs an abundance of water during the growing season. Bear in mind that our periods of frost are not as dry as the ones in Africa. Nevertheless, this is a tree fern absolutely worth trying. -10°C.

Small plants like right picture, now for only € 6,00

Cyathea medularis:

Also called "The Black Tree Fern" because of its beautiful deep black trunk. The fronds are very impressive and can reach 6 m in length. It is native to New Zealand, Fiji and Polynesia. The fronds are soft like silk. Under good conditions this fern can be a rather fast grower depending on conditions: 20 cm per year. It likes the sun with some filtered light, sheltered from strong winds and it requires a sufficient amount of water.
Pay attention: this does not mean soaking wet, but very moist. Of course the soil should be well-drained. This is a cold-hardy tree fern. -3°C.

Trunk sizes from 30 to 60 cm: € 3,00/cm trunk

Cyathea milnei:

Rarely offered with trunks!
Cyathea milnei is found on Raoul Island in the Kermadec Islands in New Zealand. Cyathea milnei resembles Cyathea dealbata and is therefore also somewhat cold resistant. The difference is that Cyathea milnei does not have the famous silver colour on the underside of the fronds like Cyathea dealbata. It is a medium-sized tree fern with a dense crown, a trunk that may get as tall as 8 m and fronds as long as 4 m; the dead fronds form a skirt around the trunk. Temperature: -5C°.

Trunk 40 cm: € 140,00

Dicksonia sellowiana:

Dicksonia sellowiana originates from Central and South America at 1000-2000 m height. The trunk may get 10 m tall and about 15-20 cm in diameter and may be covered at the base with fibrous roots. The stipe at the texture of the fronds is firm and has a beautiful shade of green and may be as long as 3 m. There are more minor differences between D. sellowiana and D. antarctica, like: the top of the trunk, as well as the base from the stipe are densely covered with yellowish hair when the new fronds are "uncurling", also the fronds keep foming throughout the growing season. This tree fern likes a moist and shady location and a sufficient amount of water. Experience showed that it is just as- or even hardier than D. antarctica and therefore also suitable for use in the garden with winter protection, a well-drained soil is very important.

Small plants like right picture above now for only € 6,00

Dicksonia fibrosa:

Dicksonia fibrosa is a beautiful tree fern from New-Zealand with an erect massive trunk. Sometimes as tall as 6 m and 20-30 cm thick. The dark green fronds are firmly structured and get a length of 1-3 m. The crown spreads very nicely, sometimes resulting in multitrunked heads as in D. antarctica. Like the D.antarctica it prefers a cool and moist environment and a location with partly shade or filtered light. The soil should be very well-drained. It is a very cold-hardy tree fern and will tolerate light to medium frost. -10°C.

Small plants like right picture above now for only € 6,00

Dicksonia antarctica:

This is the best known tree fern native to Australia, with a massive red brown to dark brown trunk, that is 4-5 m and sometimes reaching 10-15 m.The leaves are green to dark green and as long as 4.5 m. Young fronds are a shade lighter in colour. It has a great adaptability to various circumstances, no wonder it is often seen in cultivation. The Dicksonia antarctica responds best to a mild and moist environment. Placed on a sunny location it is in need of more water compared to more shady circumstances. In good conditions the treefern grows approx. 3 cm each year. This is a very-cold hardy treefern -10°C. It can be planted in the garden but it has to be covered at -5°C with straw and a rush-mat. Make sure the roots are protected by leaves, straw or other available materials.
