| Yucca pallida is a species of the prairies of northern and central Texas, were it forms rosettes that are 20-50 cm high and can be 30-90 cm wide under good growing conditions. Y.pallida has pale blue leaves of 20-40 cm length, which are 2.5-3.5 cm wide. The leaves which are lined with minute teeth are mostly flattened but we had also plants with the edges rolled slightly inwards. The inflorescence with bell-shaped flowers of 5-7cm is about 1-2 m high. This plant will survive mild winters if kept dry, but in very cold and long winters the rosettes will not make it, but if your are lucky new rosettes start from the underground rhizomes. The plant is cold resistant to -15°C. Like all yucca's they like sun and a well drained soil, in wet climates it is better to remove the panicle after a few weeks, as the flowers fall down in the crown and start rotting. The yucca is most vulnerable after flowering as the stalk leaves a hole through which rain water enters the hart which could lead to rot. When the old flower stalk has rotted away, it is better to seal the hole with cement; the new growing spears will push it aside. In our webshop we have this yucca for sale. Authors drs C.N. Klijn and R.H. Smeets from Tropical Centre have studied yuccas in the wild and also then thousands of import yucca plants from everywhere in Mexico and the USA.
