Dasylirion berlandieri

Dasylirion berlandieri is distributed in Mexico in Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas and San Luis Potosi at altitudes of 400 to 1900 m. The species grows in open, flat terrain or in open woodland on stony slopes together with Yucca filifera, Agave striata, Hesperaloe malacophylla.

The rare and little known Dasylirion berlandieri is a member of the Glaucophyllum section. It is common in northeast Mexico. The thin, variable, waxy bluish leaves that cover the short stem are typical. Due to the different conditions at the various locations, deviations in the appearance can be seen. It is similar to Dasylirion palaciosii, but with an overall narrower inflorescence.

Dasylirion berlandieri forms a trunk 20 to 50 cm in height. The variable, waxy bluish leaves are 50 to 120 cm long and 10 to 20 mm wide. The irregularly arranged radial spines are directed upwards.

The panicley, woody, narrow inflorescence is 2 to 3.5 m high. The numerous flowers are green to yellow in color. The flowering period extends from May to June.
